About Us
A Brief History of Vineyards and Leather
Haus, the designer, took up an apprenticeship as a young man with Gio, the master sandal maker of Seneca Lake. He worked on Gio's vineyards by day, and was trained in the classical art of sandal making by night. Haus experimented in all areas of accessory design and quickly developed his own style. He focused his work on the creation of wearable art and accepted commissions from customers looking for something unique and beautiful. After completing his apprenticeship, Haus established his own studio in the neighboring city of Ithaca, NY. The HAUS Studio of Art & Design has been creating original leather bags, accessories, and wearable art ever since.
The Method
The HAUS Studio is home to Haus and his craftsmen who handcraft each piece in the HAUS Collections. Haus continues to employ the traditional leatherworking techniques in which he was trained. His dedication to quality is fully realized through the use of premium materials and unparalleled craftsmanship. HAUS designs are made from latigo leather chosen for its exceptional beauty and durability. Each hide contains its own pattern of hues, tones, and body contours which are carefully adapted by the craftsman to the piece being made. The hardware is all solid brass. The combination of the latigo leather, solid brass hardware, and handcrafted construction makes for a unique piece that will last a lifetime and become even more beautiful with age. Haus has envisioned timeless beauty for each one of his creations, knowing that true satisfaction lies not just in the leather, but in the potential it has to become a uniquely sentimental, storied piece of one's life.
